CWI PREPARATION PROGRAM
Structured preparation for all three exam parts.
Approximately 40 instructional hours organized into Orientation, Part A Fundamentals, Part B Practical, Part C Code Book, and Final Review. Choose the D1.1 or API 1104 code track to match your intended examination.
This is independent preparation, not an AWS course. Completing this program does not award AWS certification, register you for an examination, or include examination fees. Verify current eligibility requirements directly with AWS.
Choose your code track
The CWI examination allows candidates to select their Part C code book. Your selection determines which code curriculum you receive. Select the track that matches your intended examination — this cannot be changed after enrollment without a track transfer.
D1.1
AWS D1.1 — Structural Welding Code (Steel)
The most commonly selected code for the CWI examination. Covers structural steel fabrication, inspection, and qualification requirements. Select this track if you work in or intend to work in structural steel fabrication or construction.
API 1104
API 1104 — Welding of Pipelines and Related Facilities
Selected by candidates in the pipeline and oil & gas industries. Covers pipeline welding procedures, qualification, and inspection requirements. Select this track if you work in or intend to work in pipeline construction or maintenance.
Important: The code edition accepted for the CWI examination changes periodically. Verify the currently accepted edition with AWS before your examination date. We will display the edition in effect at the time of your enrollment and update course materials when editions change.

Full curriculum outline
Approximately 40 instructional hours total. Shared sections (Orientation, Part A, Part B, Final Review) are identical across both code tracks. Part C is track-specific.

Access, completion, and certificates
365-day access
Access begins at confirmed paid enrollment. You may finish earlier and continue reviewing until access expires. Earned completion records and certificate downloads remain available after instructional access expires.
Completion criteria
A certificate requires authenticated enrollment and completion of required learning activities and assessments. A proposed threshold of 80% required activity completion is under review. Certificates are not issued for payment, opening pages, or allowing audio to play unattended.
Certificate of Completion
Issued as a Certificate of Completion — Professional Development Training. Documents independent training provided by The Quality Arc. Does not award AWS certification or endorsement. PDH values are pending editorial review and will not appear on certificates until that review is complete.
